Technology Glossary

Plain-English IT terms.

A quiet appendix for customers who want to understand the language behind managed services, cyber security, NBN, cloud backups, hardware, and EGIT packages without wading through jargon.

View Managed Services

AYCE Support

All-you-can-eat support. A predictable support model where eligible day-to-day IT requests are covered under the managed service package instead of billed one by one.

Endpoint

A business device used by staff, such as a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. Endpoints are often where support, monitoring, patching, and security work begins.

Endpoint Monitoring

Remote visibility over computers and devices so issues like failing disks, missing updates, performance problems, and security alerts can be picked up earlier.

View Endpoint Monitoring

Patch Management

The process of keeping operating systems and software up to date. Good patching reduces security risk and helps prevent avoidable faults.

Cyber security

Common security terms, explained in the way a business owner or manager actually needs to understand them.

Threat Detection

Security monitoring that looks for suspicious activity across devices, users, and identities, then raises alerts before a threat becomes a bigger incident.

View Threat Detection

EDR

Endpoint Detection and Response. Security software that watches devices for suspicious behaviour and helps investigate or contain attacks.

ITDR

Identity Threat Detection and Response. Security monitoring focused on user accounts, logins, identity misuse, and account takeover behaviour.

XDR

Extended Detection and Response. A broader security approach that connects signals from multiple systems, such as endpoints, identity, email, and networks.

Backup, cloud, and Microsoft 365

Cloud Device Backup

Internet and NBN

NBN

Australia's national broadband network. Depending on the address, service may be delivered by fibre, fixed wireless, copper-based technologies, or other access types.

View EGNet

FTTP

Fibre to the Premises. Fibre runs all the way to the property, usually giving stronger upgrade options and better performance headroom.

Fixed Wireless

An NBN connection delivered using wireless towers rather than a fibre or copper line into the property. Available speeds can vary by address and network capability.

Static IP

An internet address that stays the same. Static IPs are useful for some business systems, remote access setups, VPNs, and hosted services.

Typical Evening Speed

A speed estimate for busy periods. It helps set expectations for real-world performance rather than only advertising a theoretical maximum.

Hardware, sites, and physical systems

Terms used for devices, leasing, site security, cabling, and workplace technology.

HaaS

Hardware as a Service. A leasing-style model where eligible hardware is supplied over a term, often alongside managed services and warranty replacement support.

View Hardware
